Came here via A/E :). And just wanted to say that I too love the Flashman series, and have also learned 99% of my 19th century history from them. (I don't know what it is about the nineteenth century, but I found its wars to be terribly dull in history class, maybe because the people involved didn't seem as colourful as the ones in earlier centuries. Flashman cured that, I have to say).

Yay - another Flashman fan! It IS amazing how he can make detailed descriptiopns of famous military manoeuvres comprehensible and even exciting. Also, I think I'm maybe a bit in love with Flashy. which s shameful, because he's SO awful.

He is that. I think the bit in "Flashman and the Redskins" where he sells Cleonie is probably the bit that most surprised me, but it was totally in keeping with his character. Eep.

Have you read the newest one? I think it's supposed to be released in the US now but I haven't gotten a chance to hit the bookstore lately.

'Flashman On The March'? It's still only in hardback here so I haven't read it yet. But soon, I hope! The only books I buy in hardback are Harry Potter, because waiting is not an option with them.

I'd forgoten the selling Cleonie thing - yes, that was genuinely shocking.
